Kamasi
C. Hill is a public scholar with connections to Black Studies, English,
Art and History. He’s a historian, theologian, educator, art curator and filmmaker. He has been a public school educator for 25 years and is
also an adjunct lecturer in history and religion. He has curated over
250 pieces of original African and African American art and work from
his collection has been in several museums, including but not limited to
the Museum of Science and Industry, DuSable Museum and the University
of Chicago. His collection has also appeared on the television show
Empire.
Dr. Hill has contributed to several publications, in the field
of popular culture, history, and religion. He currently teaches History
at Evanston Township High School, and is working on a graphic novel on
African American History. He is the filmmaker of the documentary Born
in the Struggle, a film that explores the personal accounts of children
born to 1960s and 70s radical activists. The film examines their
reflections and ruminations on their childhood, the influences of their
parents and how the activism of their parents affected their life.
Notable subjects include Ras J. Baraka, Tupac Shakur, Ayanna Gregory,
Fred Hampton Jr., Ta-Nehisi Coates and Dave Chappelle.
